Catch Liz Bittner
Liz Bittner currently serves as President & CEO for Travel South USA, a 12 state regional marketing alliance owned by Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Liz has successfully built a program of work at the helm of the oldest, largest, and most respected regional alliance in the United States. In the past decade, the region has successfully increased visitation and spending, beating national averages and capturing market share in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. She spearheaded the beta test for T.E.'s International State Tourism Dashboard and recently completed a series of whitepapers facilitated by Longwoods International for State Tourism Offices on Funding and Private Sector Stakeholders. She actively engages with the U.S. Travel Industry Association, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Brand USA.
In addition to her full-time duties with Travel South USA, she also serves as the business manager for the US Civil Rights Trail Marketing Alliance. The Trail is a collection of 130+ churches, courthouses, schools, museums, and other landmarks that played a pivotal role in advancing social justice in the 1950s & '60s. This project began in 2015 to nominate a few Civil Rights landmarks as potential UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and we continue this journey, working on a serial nomination for 2022 or 2023. The USCRT Marketing Alliance manages a website, co-op advertising campaigns, research, a new podcast series, and supports a Symposium on World Heritage planned for April 2022.
Liz's background includes hotel sales & marketing, international group sales, GSA marketing, casinos, rental cars, and international master franchising with Choice Hotels, Days Inns of America and the Hospitality Services Division at Cendant Corporation, now Wyndham Worldwide.
Her accomplishments include committee seats on the U.S. Travel Association's Board of Directors, Marketing Committee, Scholarship Award Committee, and Membership Committee. She is guest lecturer at Georgia State University’s Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration.
Liz is a graduate of Ohio University in Organizational Communications/Marketing. She resides in Atlanta with her husband, John, and has three children in young adulthood, as she proudly cheers for Clemson University, Georgia State University, and the University of Alabama.
